NPL Finals - Canberra vs Wollongong!

Ground Hopping NPL

Saturday was a road trip to Wollongong to see Wollongong Wolves Football Club host Canberra Olympic Football Club in the NPL Finals Series. The Premiers of NPL Capital Football playing the Premiers of Football NSW.
The scene was Albert Butler Memorial Park, and I got my first glance as I sped past on the highway, Google maps telling me my destination was on the left - unfortunately the exit was waaay further left (like behind me!) and after a bit of exploring I found the bumpy little dirt track leading to this gem of a ground. It's even cooler that it has a 'hidden' entrance, like the Bat Cave!
Both sides really went for it on the field, nothing held back. The scoreline of 5-1 was unflattering for Olympic but despite that they never let Wolves roll over the top of them - Wollongong just had a ruthlessness in attack that Olympic was unable to match.

The grandstand was full, with a small contingent of the WolfDen on the hill. I'd like to think a nicer sunny day would've seen it even bigger. I visited the canteen of course, a couple of sausage sizzles you can't complain about. The canteen had these great retro blue tiled walls - I didn't get a pic because I thought it might be a bit stalkerish for the volunteers! 😂 next time!

I went to a match at WIN Stadium earlier in the season so I know Wolves get decent crowds there, but with a bit of extra seating this field would be a cauldron for NSW NPL matches. I do know that the Wolves have bigger plans though, hopefully they come through.
Another sweet football road trip. Enjoy football your own way fans!
