W-League Grand Final adventures
Took in the sensational Westfield W-League Grand Final yesterday at the outstanding Jubilee Oval in Kogarah. Congrats to Sydney FC and Perth Glory on outstanding seasons and to SFC for lifting the trophy! Lots of goals and lots and grit from these teams. Heaps of families there to watch and create some football memories. Seriously top W-League season, some really cracker matches and plenty of drama. Can't wait for it to start up again next season, with a full home and away format.
Maso Cup 2019 in Queanbeyan
Had a good day out at the Maso Cup Queanbeyan 2019 earlier in February. I was surprised how big it is, but probably shouldn't have been, I know it's been running for a long time. Heaps of clubs were there, Masters, NPL, social, youth etc. They ran it across three grounds all with pretty good surfaces (before the tournament anyway!). Congrats to the team at Queanbeyan City FC for organising this iteration - I know how much work must go into it.
Seiffert Oval for W-League action - love the retro grounds!
I was really excited to head out to Seiffert Oval on Thursday night to see Canberra United Football Club host Melbourne Victory in the Westfield W-League. I used to go to Seiffert to watch the Raiders play when I was back in primary school and although I'm not much into rugby league anymore I still have fond memories. As you know the game was a washout, but I still took the time to soak in the atmosphere of this retro ground. It's been upgraded by the Queanbeyan Council in recent years with new seating and a lick of paint, but the 'old schoolness' was still...
Matildas v Chile in Penrith Nov 2018
A huge trip out to the Westfield Matildas vs Chile in Penrith on Saturday, a 3-2 loss for Australia. There were over 15k people there, almost a full house, and I assume there were heaps of newish football fans - many parents of young players. This was my first Australia game taking the 6-year-old so that was a big thing for us! A disappointing loss where we should have buried it before half time. Things we should learn from this event: The Chilean fans showed us that you can actually make noise at a football match and no one gets hurt;...
The rubber pants of awesomeness! - AUS v China 2008
Flashback to 2008 when Australia hosted China in a World Cup Qualifier in Sydney. Someone in our group decided that all wearing yellow plastic pants would be awesome - and they were right. They were decorated using textas with mostly inappropriate statements and pictures then we realised that they ripped really easily. So before the match even started everyone's pants were ripped to shreds by each other. Best bit was that everyone was smart enough to still be wearing other pants underneath...except for one guy! Ha ha, he spent the whole match closely guarding his pants. The game ended 1-0 to...
